Burgmeier’s Hauling is the contractor for collecting garbage in Hyndman Borough. Collection days are every Monday and Thursday.

The provided collection bin must be placed near the street for pickup the night before (Sunday & Wednesday).

If the collection day is on the day of the Holiday (not the “observed day”), it will be collected the following day.

Holidays include: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

In March of 2021 Londonderry Township was informed that the Board of the South Central Counties Solid Waste Agency would no longer subsidize the operational costs of 10 drop-off sites across Bedford, Fulton, and Huntingdon Counties. If the Township desired to continue the recycling program, the cost of $7,776 would need to be provided by local funding. Hyndman Borough and Londonderry Township worked together to seek a solution to the closing of the program.

The Borough and Township talked to local recycling contractors and a program in our community would be cost prohibiting because of transportation costs.

There are five remaining sites in Bedford County that are operated by the Sandy Run Landfill where recycling materials can dropped off. They include: Shellsburg/United Church, Bedford Township Supervisors, Everett Church of the Brethren, Sandy Run Landfill, and Broad Top Township Supervisors.

The closest to Hyndman is located 20 miles away in Schellsburg behind the former schoolhouse along Route 96. Next is at the Bedford Township building located along Shed Road at 25 miles from Hyndman.

In Cumberland, Penn-Mar Recycling and Allegany County have recycling receptors located at 975 Kelly Road. Recycling at this location needs to be sorted and placed in the proper receptor.

This Recycling Center accepts: #1 Plastics, #2 Plastics, Cardboard, Glass, Cans. Newspaper, Office Paper, Magazines, Used Motor Oil, and Antifreeze. Cardboard and office paper is collected in the Penn-Mar building along Riverside Avenue. All other items are collected at the end of Kelly Road.
